Preview: CPL North Conference round one

Boambee and the Coffs Coast Tigers headline the first weekend of action in the northern conference with the Bombers unbeaten in their last six starts.

The Tigers have won three of their last four and will take confidence from holding Boambee to a 1-1 draw in the opening round.

Coffs City United Lions will start on the same points as everyone else after celebrating winning the inaugural CPL premiership last weekend.

Coach Glen Williams admitted his players were “just happy to be playing” ahead of their clash with Sawtell.

“It’s been tough to manage (with COVID), but North Coast Football and Football Mid North Coast have done a great job because week to week it changed, so I think everyone needs to be commended there,” he said.

The Lions cruised past the Scorpions 2-0 earlier in the year.

In the final game of the round Northern Storm host North Coast.

The Storm will look to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat to Coffs City last week as they aim to get early points on the board in the northern conference.
