Stars and stripes as Coffs Tigers make a feline for finals

Coffs Coast Tigers have been on a sustained tear in the Coastal Premier League – suddenly into second place and well and truly on the radar of rival title contenders.
After a go-whoa start to the campaign, the Tigers have found their mojo and momentum, winning four of their last five assignments.
Particularly eye-catching were the wins gained against Boambee and Northern Storm, who have legitimate CPL claims.
Tigers captain and keeper Luke Kliendienst has taken stock of their emerging prospects.
“It’s come from everyone putting in the hard yards at training,” Luke said of the turnaround.
“As a team I feel we have all gotten to know each other better and become closer.
“With only three games left it’s very important we stay focused and keep winning as the competition is so close a slip up could possibly cost us a final spot.
“We would like to continue to keep playing well and performing to take that into the final series.”
Momentum is precious in modern sport, and the Tigers have been helped on that front by being able to keep the same personnel on the pitch.
“We have been pretty lucky with injuries throughout the season and we’ll look to keep it that way,” Luke said.
The final game of the regular season for the Tigers will see them butt with runaway leaders Coffs United – in what shapes as a mouth-watering appetiser before the full hog degustation of the finals.
But the squad is keen to not get ahead of themselves, and focussed no further ahead than the cliched engagement of their next match, against Sawtell.
“Despite their position on the ladder it’s still a very tough game. Sawtell have some talented players and their never-give-up attitude pushes teams till the 90th minute,” Luke said.
