Boambee FC’s Brad Clancy – teen living the dream

Brad Clancy had a football vision for 2021. This being his first season out of juniors, the aim was to train hard and play even harder.
Inside the jersey was the yearning to earn himself a spot off the bench in the Bombers CPL 1st Division squad mid-way through the season.
Brad had to shift the goal posts on ambition when he found himself called up earlier than he had even wished for.
The talented youngster was given the opportunity by club coaches to show his football skills at a senior level in pre-season in the first FFA Cup match played by the Bombers.
And he hasn’t looked back – being named each week in the starting 11 for the 1st Division Bombers.
Brad’s bond with Boambee is as long as it is strong – first turning out for the Bombers at age five. And he hasn’t missed a season since.
His career with the powerhouse club has been interspersed with time in the North Coast Football representative side.
Brad’s role now in his first season of seniors is different to that of his earlier years.
In juniors he was well used to playing up front in attacking roles, where his assured left foot regularly punched the ball into the strings.
Finding his way in the senior ranks, Brad is relishing the challenge of being in the backline – while still keen to inject himself when game opportunities present.
“Up until now winning the grand final and taking out the minor premiership in the 17s division in 2020 has been my most memorable moment,” Brad said.
“But playing in a CPL 1st Div grand final in my first year as a senior would take the cake.
“The squad is coming together nicely just at the right time of the season. Don’t write us off!”
